ROAD DATA COLLECTION SETUP

FROM BRIEF TO DATACalibrate scenes and equipment in a pilot, then use consistent instructions for collection, review and delivery.

SERVICE SCOPE

Different sources. Clearly defined requirements.

Collection services organized around the model task. Agree on collection methods, equipment, locations and timing before the pilot.

COLLECTION PLAN

A collection plan you can read and check.

Plan an initial road-perception batch with defined coverage, file requirements and review criteria for every collection target.

Urban road · daytime60 clipsParticipants and junction coverage
Urban road · nighttime30 clipsLow-light usability and exposure
Suburban road · daytime30 clipsDistant objects and varied backgrounds

120 clips total · 20 seconds each · Three scene groups

Review target volumes by scene group and use the pilot to confirm routes, equipment settings and recollection criteria.

Data requirements

  • Match every clip to a batch-index record
  • Record scene tags, timing and equipment references
  • Confirm naming, encoding and resolution in the pilot

Collection quality checks

  • Check decoding and clip completeness
  • Review duplicates, scene tags and coverage
  • Log failed checks and the recollection approach

INPUTS & DELIVERABLES

Clear requirements. Defined deliverables.

Agree on the scope, then define files, indexes and review records. The sample below shows how a collection plan is organized.

Prepare for the first discussion

  • Model task and intended use
  • Scene dimensions, estimated volume and exclusions
  • Output preferences, equipment and timing constraints
  • Source permissions, access and data-handling needs

Possible delivery contents

  • Collection files organized by batch
  • Indexes, scene tags and association records
  • Collection guidelines and equipment / calibration references
  • Coverage checks, exception records and version manifests

PROCESS & QUALITY

Use a pilot to turn requirements into instructions.

Each stage has a reviewable output. Volume, timing, acceptance thresholds and responsibilities require project-specific agreement.

  1. 01

    Define the brief

Clarify the task, scenes, source conditions and handover boundaries.

    Output: brief & coverage draft
  2. 02

    Plan & pilot

Assess capture conditions and check a small batch against expectations.

    Output: pilot samples & guidelines
  3. 03

    Collect in batches

Follow the agreed plan, recording equipment, scenes and exceptions.

    Output: files & batch records
  4. 04

    Review & complete

Check integrity, usability and coverage, then identify missing items.

    Output: review & issue lists
  5. 05

    Accept & deliver

Reconcile files and indexes, check formats and complete the handover.

    Output: dataset & version notes

FAQ

Before collection begins

01Can we start without a complete collection specification?

Start with the model task, use case and data gaps, then define coverage, documentation and a pilot scope.

02Can we run a pilot before scaling up?

A pilot can validate scenes, equipment and checks on a small batch. Volume, timing and cost are defined through project assessment.

03Can we specify equipment, locations, languages or scenes?

These can be assessed as requirements. Feasibility depends on equipment, field conditions, source permissions and project arrangements.

04What happens when collected data is incomplete or unsuitable?

Agree on checks and issue records during the pilot. Review usability, duplicates and gaps by batch, then decide on recollection, replacement or scope adjustments.

05How are data sources and handling agreed?

Clarify source conditions, participation, access, handover and retention before work starts. Record these arrangements in the project plan and update them as requirements change.
